New Testament Survey (grade 9 – 12)

This course will provide an overview of the New Testament from the Holy Scripture. Background material will be discussed in order to better understand the political and religious culture in New Testament times. Students will spend considerable time looking at the life and ministry of Jesus. The course will also discuss introductory matters and the major themes for each book.

Old Testament Survey (grade 9 – 12)

A survey of the entire Old Testament in its historical and cultural context is studied in order to understand the general content of the Old Testament books (including the outstanding features and basic teachings), to understand the place of each book in God’s total, progressive revelation and how to apply practical principles for contemporary Christian living.

Spiritual Formation (grade 9 – 12)

This course is an introduction to the nature, history, practices and adventure of Christian Spiritual Formation. This course includes an overview of the various ways that Christians have sought to deepen their relationship with God. Special emphasis will be given to the nature and practice of prayer (speaking, listening, and discerning) in the Church and the life of the Christian. An understanding and appreciation will be developed regarding the role and use of the Bible and the impact of theology on the life of a Christian. A developmental spirituality will be discussed with particular focus on the spiritual growth of teens in community and as individuals.

Introduction to Hermeneutics (grade 10 – 12)

This course focuses on the authority, nature, and interpretation (hermeneutics) of the Holy Scriptures. It is designed to help students work through issues that concern the trust they place in the Bible and its interpretation. Students will learn to compare various Christian traditions’ views of authority, examining the Reformation principle from Evangelical perspectives. The Scripture will be studied as the primary text focusing on its transmission and canonization. Students will also explore how the Church has interpreted the Scriptures throughout history, and research the current trends in Evangelical hermeneutics.
