STAR Homeschool Courses supplements the efforts of home schooling families with quality classroom teaching in specific subject areas for junior and senior high students.
How we can help
- Junior and senior high curriculum can be challenging to teach; support from STAR can be critical to continuing home education
- College entrance exams—including the new SAT—have placed increased emphasis on essay-writing skill and style; STAR’s expertise in this area can bring significant improvement
- High school science can be more understandable and meaningful with STAR experiences like frog dissection and chemistry experiments in a classroom setting
- STAR helps parents evaluate whether subjects taught at home are being addressed thoroughly enough
- STAR provides a healthy and supportive environment for interaction with both teenage peers and adults
With six Southland locations (as of Fall 2006), STAR Homeschool Courses may be just what your family needs to begin or continue home educating your student through the important junior and senior high school years.
The “homeschooling adventure” is one best shared with like-minded and supportive people who understand—from experience—both the wonderful opportunities as well as the important responsibilities and challenges of home education. STAR, staffed by experienced home educators, partners with families to make homeschooling more rewarding, successful and satisfying.
A Little History
STAR has its foundations in Village Bible Academy ISP and support group in Garden Grove. After operating as the VBA Supplemental Tutoring Program for the 1997-98 school year, Biola University adopted the STAR program as one of several programs and services offered to homeschoolers.
The first year boasted a total of 35 classes, some located in Garden Grove and others on campus at Biola University in La Mirada. Today, STAR Homeschool Courses number 160, taught at STAR sites in Garden Grove, La Mirada, South Bay, South Orange County, Temecula and Yorba Linda.
As we seek God, continue to follow His leading and trust in His provision, we anticipate further growth and success as we continue to assist families in homeschooling their teens.
