Mathematics

Research, consultation and experience have helped us select math materials excellent for their organization and presentation of college prep coursework. These texts provide step-by-step instruction and plenty of practice exercises along with periodic reviews and tests.

Parent Expectations: It is essential that parents consistently score math assignments. If parents are not personally able to provide this academic support, we recommend purchasing optional materials and/or obtaining private instruction. Parents should also ensure that students read and complete the practice problems before attempting the exercises.

Fundamentals of Mathematics (7)

Give your students one more year to play with blocks…the building blocks of mathematics! This sequential approach enables your student to master foundational skills and successfully progress to higher mathematics. Topics include the four basic operations of math, measurement, ratios, percentages and fractions.

Pre-Algebra (8)

STAR cadets, before you can join the “STAR” ship Mathercise, spend a year training at STAR Math Academy and learn the fundamentals of pre-algebra. Strategic exercises will enable you to navigate through your course work and on to higher mathematics. Topics include integers, rational numbers, variables, solving equations and much more.
Prerequisite: Students should be proficient in their math facts and basic arithmetic skills.

Algebra 1 (9)

Join us for a voyage on the “STAR” ship Mathercise, to boldly go where your students have not gone before. Weekly explorations embark on a logical, concise discussion of algebraic vocabulary, real number system, solving of equations (including linear systems), and inequalities. A solid understanding of word problems brings practical application of algebra to the real world.
Prerequisite: Pre-Algebra or equivalent.

Algebra 2 (10–11)

Come back to the “STAR” ship Mathercise, part II: The Next Generation. After students have mastered the basic principles of Algebra I, spur them on to a deeper understanding of linear equations, polynomials, and factoring. Students are immersed in complex numbers, rational expressions and other second-year algebra topics.
Prerequisite: Algebra 1.

Geometry (10–11)

Dorothy, you’re not in Kansas anymore… Lines, and angles, and theorems, oh pi! From proofs, to planes, to polygons, and more, this class is not for the meek at heart. Join us on a colorful journey through the land of Geometry. Gain courage under our masterful instructors. Topics include the nature of deductive reasoning, lines angles, inequalities, parallel lines, and much more.
Prerequisite: Algebra 1.

Pre-Calculus / Trigonometry (12)

Runners on your mark, get set, go! Calling all mathletes…do not grow weary but press on to the finish! This dynamic class will include instruction in algebraic functions, trigonometry, and an introduction to calculus.

* The course levels listed in parentheses are guidelines. We realize that homeschoolers often cross grade-level "boundaries" for many subjects; therefore students are welcome to enroll in any class that suits their level of achievement. Please remember that our courses are college preparation level, and students will be expected to maintain these high standards. Please see the site class overviews for class days and times.
