Science

All of our science classes incorporate lab work to let students not only read about God's amazing universe, but actually witness scientific principles in action. To allow for these hands-on activities, science class periods are an additional 20 minutes per week for junior high level courses and an additional 40 minutes per week for high school level.

Parent Expectations: Please check exercises for correctness, provide verbal review before tests and quizzes, proctor at-home testing times and make sure students learn the definitions of new words and keep up with their assigned work.

Courses Offered

Listed by grade level.*

General Science (7)

When you embark on a study of science, where do you find the organization for your observations? Why, the scientific method of course! Along with their newfound scientific grounding, students will also benefit from fascinating hands-on study of the science of soil, plants, the human body, principles of physical science, atmospheric science, the weather, classification, microscopy, creation, and insects.

Earth Science and Health (8)

“One small step for man, one giant step for mankind…” The greatness of God’s earth when gazed upon from space cannot be denied. Science is not just a collection of facts, but a process of historically important events, structures, and action that can be observed in or from the earth. Dynamic class discussion will include topics such as astronomy, space exploration, the atmosphere, and the perfection of God’s design. Second semester students will also study different facets of mental, spiritual, and physical health.

Physical Science (9)

You can turn your backyard into an archaeological dig site…or you can join us to learn about atmosphere, weather, oceanography, earthquakes, volcanoes, rocks, and fossils. A foundational science course, Physical Science prepares your student for upper-level Chemistry and Physics courses. Also included in this outstanding high school course are weekly lab activities.

Biology (10)

Catch the love of God’s majesty as you witness His intelligent design first hand…from the complexity of the “simple” cell to the marvel of His handprint on all of His creation. Including discussion, hands-on experiments and dissections, course topics will range from botany, anatomy and physiology, the cell, and zoology.

Chemistry (11)

Unlock the mystery of the atom. An understanding of chemical science brings with it the burden of responsibility to utilize this knowledge to benefit mankind. Students will gain a foundational understanding of atomic structure, bonding, kinetic theory, solution and equilibrium. This course stresses applications of chemistry, through discussion and lab experiments, identifies marvels of design in creation, and promotes the development of organized problem solving.
Prerequisite: Algebra 1.

Physics (12)

Have you ever wondered what keeps you glued to your seat as you go around the giant loop on Riddler’s Revenge? Strap on your seatbelts and join us as we endeavor to unlock the mysteries of matter in motion! Course topics to include: Newton’s laws, work and energy, waves and optics, electricity, magnetism, and more.
Prerequisite: Algebra 2 and Geometry.

* The course levels listed in parentheses are guidelines. We realize that homeschoolers often cross grade-level "boundaries" for many subjects; therefore students are welcome to enroll in any class that suits their level of achievement. Please remember that our courses are college preparation level, and students will be expected to maintain these high standards. Please see the site class overviews for class days and times.
