Ten Commandments for Terrified Auditioners

  1. Thou shalt memorize thy selection.
  2. Thou shalt bring music for the accompanist to play.
  3. Thou shalt sing thy best 30-40 seconds of a song, but be prepared to sing the whole song, should thee be asked to sing more.
  4. Thou shalt be able to explain to the accompanist where you will start and end, preferred tempo, and where you will need time for breaths.
  5. Thou shalt not apologize ahead of time for being sick, late, forgetting music, etc.
  6. Thou shalt not bring your own instrument or instrumentalist.
  7. Thou shalt not expect to be able to sing with a tape or CD.
  8. Thou shalt not offend the accompanist by asking to transpose an audition song.
  9. Thou shalt be polite and positive, not pushy, and don't rush out of the audition.
  10. Thou shalt dress nicely and comfortably, perhaps to suggest the character for which you are auditioning. If you know you will be dancing, wear appropriate clothes & shoes.

Should any of these Ten Commandments be ignored, thee runs the risk of being:
  • Sent home without auditioning.
  • Interrupted before thee is done with thy presentation.
  • Having thy audition sheet sent directly to the "send to chorus" file.
