Staff Introduction
Average day overview
- Check in as early as 8:30 AM – must be physically in Sutherland, not in the courtyard or parking lot and checked in with BYT staff personal. Children under the age of fourteen must be accompanied by an adult into the Sutherland building and checked in with a BYT staff member. The same applies when picking up children under the age of fourteen at the end of the day.
- Ready to begin at 9 AM Pick up at 5 PM SHARP!
- First day, Aug. 4th :
- 8:30 AM-For those that need to pay balances, pay music deposits and turn in paperwork. All checks must be made out to Biola University. ALL balances must be paid in full on Aug. 4th in order for your child to participate.
- $5 Music deposit- music may be kept or returned on Friday, 15, for deposit. Must be cash or check payable to Biola University. (To have music deposit returned, music must be in good condition and with no pen markings.)
Audition Workshop, Friday Aug. 8
- For Beginning and Intermediate only
- What to prepare:
- 30-40 Seconds of a song – see website for suggestions
- Monologue- suggestions given in class
- Dance routine – taught in class
Theme days:
- Pajama day, color day, crazy hat day, etc.
Tickets on sale Aug. 11th:
- Everyone over the age of 3 must have a ticket.
- All tickets are $10.00
What to wear on a daily basis:
- Boys:
- Sweatpants with an elastic or drawstring waist. May also wear sweatpants cut off to make long shorts. You may not have any garment that constricts your waist when you bend over and touch you toes. Long shorts (just above the knee) are ok if they are made of stretchable fabric and have elastic or drawstring waist. If student is 10 yrs. or older, athletic pants with no stripes is acceptable. Must wear t-shirt that hits the hips or below so that when you raise your arms your stomach is not exposed. T-shirt must have sleeves that cover armpits. No tank tops. No tops with offensive logos. It is recommended that you wear jockey briefs versus boxer shorts for comfort while dancing and exercising. Jazz shoes or jazz sneakers are preferred; ballet shoes acceptable. You must wear closed-toed shoes. You may wear sneakers until you have the proper dance shoes. You must have black jazz shoes or sneakers for the show.
- Girls:
- Loose fitting dance pants, dance capris, or sweatpants. May also wear long shorts (to the knee) with tights as long as the shorts are loose and stretchy and have an elastic waist. Must wear loose fitting t-shirt that hits the hips or below so that when you raise your arms your stomach is not exposed. You may wear a leotard underneath your shirt but it cannot be flesh colored. T-shirt must have sleeves that cover the armpits. No tank tops. No tops with offensive logos. Pants and tops must not have writing that highlights your chest or rear. Sports bra or appropriate undergarments required. Jazz shoes or jazz sneakers recommended versus ballet shoes. (You must have black jazz shoes or jazz sneakers for the show.) If you have long hair, please wear it pulled up in a ponytail or bun.
What to bring on a daily basis:
- Jazz shoes, Water, Lunch, Water, Snack, Water, 3-Ring Binder, Water, Pencils, Water!
Saturday, August 16th:
- Students should plan to arrive at Sutherland Auditorium at approximately 2pm
- Bring: dinner, water, jazz shoes, jazz pants, SHOW t-shirt
- More information will be given regarding the day at a later time.
Parent Participation: All parents are asked to volunteer in one of the following areas: set construction, load in, tickets, ushering, and strike. Please sign up this evening before leaving the meeting.
